GNY offers a two-year, comprehensive training program that includes classroom instruction, self-study and on-the-job assignments.  The technical knowledge you gain and working relationships you develop provide a well-rounded foundation to make highly informed choices on the various career paths GNY offers.

Underwriting Training Program

Why become an Underwriter?

If you enjoy analyzing information and paying close attention to detail, underwriting can be an excellent career choice. An underwriter must have demonstrable solid judgment and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with clients to develop innovative risk management strategies based on a client’s unique risk profile. With experience, trainees are given greater responsibilities.

Claims Examiner Training Program

Why Become a Claims Examiner?

A Claims Examiner controls a file from start to finish: Verifying policy coverage, investigating the cause of the loss and determining the appropriate settlement value of the claim. An examiner may also report overpayments, underpayments, and other irregularities, as well as work with legal counsel on claims requiring litigation.

Claims Examiners investigate, evaluate and settle claims according to company procedures. They also apply technical knowledge and human relations skills to effect fair and prompt disposal of cases to reduce losses. Good negotiating skills are a defining characteristic of these professionals.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Risk Management, Math, English, Sciences or other related fields are preferred for admittance to the GNY Training Program.  Candidates must also possess excellent verbal, written and computer skills. We look for motivated and confident individuals. Candidates should have the ability to interact with others on all levels throughout the organization, as well as within the brokerage community.

Insurance Industry Advancement:

Underwriters and Claims Examiners looking for advancement must remember that continuing education is essential. GNY fully supports insurance-related education and designations such as the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter exams (CPCU). GNY provides for the study materials, in-house classes, reimbursement of exam fees, and bonuses for passing each exam.
